![]() "Charlie Brown Around Town" in Saint Paul, MN was a 2001 summer-long public art event celebrating the life and work of Charles M. Schulz. From June'01 through September'01, 101 colorful and imaginative Charlie Brown statues dotted sidewalks, plazas, and parks of the capital city. Painted by local artists and sponsored by area businesses, the Charlies were auctioned off at the end of September and the proceeds will be use to build a lasting legacy of programs for future artists and emerging cartoonists at Saint Paul's College of Visual Arts and the Art Instruction School, and will help complete a permanent bronze sculpture of the whole Peanuts gang.
The Scoop
This is a photo journal of my fun vacation/adventure/mission that Beth and I took on over a 3 day weekend in August '01. Beth is a wonderful woman from North Carolina that I met in Alaska while I was there supporting my mother's run of a marathon. She had seen a piece on a TV morning show about the Charlie Brown Around Town exhibition in St. Paul and alerted me to it. We decided that this was something I could not pass up. To her surprise, she mistakenly volunteered to be the photographer for almost all of the pictures. Try to follow our search for the statues with these: Maps
